Intercultural Information Corner(国際相談コーナー)

Helping you cope with the culture and language barrier in Soka.

The Intercultural Information Corner(IIC) is on the 2nd floor of the city hall and provides useful information and advice about life in Soka for foreign residents. The IIC is staffed by members of a local NPO volunteer group. Help is available in English, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Thai, Urdu and French. Phones calls are answered in Japanese or English.

You can get help with the following.

  • Enrolling your child at a local elementary or junior high school. The staff can explain about the Japanese school system and help you get ready for your child’s first day at school.
  • The staff will help you apply for services etc. at the city hall. They can translate for you and help you understand Japanese government services.
  • They have lots of information about living in Japan.

The Intercultural Information Corner is open on Mon. Wed. and Fri from 9am to 5pm,except for public holidays and Dec. 29 to Jan. 3
Help is available on Tue. and Thu. but you have to pre-book.
