July 3: Sumo Wrestlers National Team of Ukraine
The Sumo wrestlers and coaches of the Ukraine Sumo League had Sumo practice at Kinen Tai-iku Kan (Commemorative Gymnasium) for the international competition held in the United States from July 7.
Welcomed members were given special presents by the Soka Okamisan Association and the Soka City Local Industries Promotion Council. The Sumo wrestlers got dressed in Yukata with smiles, a well-known product of Soka, and received Soka Senbei, with each wrestler's name written on them. Mayor Asai gave a greeting speech, "Your achievements will give courage to people in Ukraine. We truly pray for peace and our thoughts will be with all the people in Ukraine." Mr. KOROBKO Liubov, the representing coach, expressed his ambition for the competition, "Thank you for understanding the present situation of our country and for cooperating with us. We will make our utmost efforts to meet your expectations."

After that, the Sumo wrestlers practiced with students on the Sumo ring, which was cleaned and prepared by members of the Sumo club of Soka Junior High School. Mr. SEKIMO Daiki (3rd grader), captain of the club, made comments about the wrestlers, "The Ukraine wrestlers were well trained and had excellent techniques, and we could not push them. I hope they will do well in the international competition, with the heart of people in Ukraine."
The Ukraine wrestlers made great achievements in the international competition, fighting with Japanese wrestlers in the final match and winning several medals, including a gold medal.
