Interviewing the Thoughts for the Tokyo 2020

The Olympic year has come! We are going to interview Olympians and Paralympians related to Soka City for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics.

For this issue, we interviewed members of the gymnastics team of the KONAMI Sports Club, whose training base is located in Soka City, to ask about the thoughts for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and to request a message for citizens.

Mr. Koji Yamamuro

Born on January 17, 1989
Favorite events: Pommel horse, rings and parallel bars
Resolutions for this year: Challenge
Mr. Yamamuro won a silver medal in the London Olympics and a gold medal in the Rio Olympics in the team gymnastics. He is training for the entry in the Olympics for the third time, taking advantage of the amount of his experience in technique and mentality.

Q: What do you feel about the Tokyo 2020 ?

I want to feel again in Tokyo the excitement of winning a gold medal in the Rio Olympics. I could not see in Rio how excited people were in Japan, so I am looking forward to the Olympics to be held in my country.

Q: Will you give a message to citizens of Soka ?

Please cheer us up in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. That will give us energy. Let's liven up the Tokyo 2020 Olympics together.

Mr. Yusuke Tanaka

Resolutions for this year: Decisiveness and action
Mr. Tanaka won a silver medal in the London Olympics and a gold medal in the Rio Olympics in the team gymnastics. He is training for the entry in the Olympics for the third time, with the beautiful form and elaborate performance of gymnastics.

Q: What do you feel about the Tokyo 2020 ?

Unlike four years ago, I am having a hard time with injuries, but I realize I really like gymnastics. I continue to enjoy gymnastics and train for the entry in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Q: Will you give a message to citizens of Soka ?

Eight years have passed since I came to Soka. We were congratulated by a lot of people during the parade after the Rio Olympics. I want to turn their cheering to my energy and to express my appreciation with gymnastics.
