National Health Insurance System and Medical-care System for the Latter-stage Elderly

Payment of the Allowance for Sick and Wounded

In case an insured person of the national health insurance or of the medical-care system for the latter-stage elderly could not receive wages due to nonattendance to work affected by the infection of COVID-19, the person can receive the payment of the allowance for sick and wounded if he/she meets all the requirements below. The grant period will be the days he/she could not work (from the 4th day to the returning day to work).

Requirements

  • Employees who are paid salary by the workplace
  • Those who could not work for four or more days in a row, due to the medical treatment of the infection or to the suspected infection of COVID-19, and could not receive wages for those days.

Reduction or Exemption of Insurance Tax (Fee)

An insured person of the national health insurance or of the medical-care system for the latter-stage elderly who meets one of the requirements below, affected by COVID-19, will be subject to the reduction or exemption of insurance tax (fee) if application is made.

Requirements

(1)An insured person belonging to a family in which the main person who financially support the family (hereinafter referred to as "householder") died or is gravely sick or wounded
(2)The insured person belonging to a family in which the householder's income decreases substantially and meets all the requirements below:

  • The business income or the wage income of the householder in the year 2022 is expected to decrease by 30% or more, compared to that of the year 2021.
  • The total income of the householder during the year 2021 is 10 million yen or less.
  • The total income of the year 2021, other than the income expected to decrease, is four million yen or less.
