The 10th Anniversary of Sister City Affiliation
Signing Ceremony of the Declaration to Promote Sister City Friendship Exchanges

On October 24, a signing ceremony was held in Showa Village, Fukushima Prefecture to sign the declaration to promote sister city friendship exchanges.

Soka City and Showa Village became sister cities on July 17, 2010, and this year marks the 10th anniversary.
Celebrating this milestone, the city and the village declared to promote friendship exchanges in still more various fields, based on the trust and ties of friendship built in the past years.

International Haiku Convention
Of Oku-no Hosomichi Soka Matsubara

The contest was started, commemorating the 330th anniversary of the departure of Oku-no Hosomichi, and invited entries from the world over.
The total of 10,824 entries included Haiku in Japanese and in foreign languages (English and French).

On November 7, a review session was held, with 11 attendees out of 20 prize-winners of the Japanese Haiku Section, and comments were given by judges. In addition, six prize winners were announced from among the entries in the morning of the session day, and it was a day to enjoy and appreciate Haiku.
